this is the palace museum; also know as the purple forbidden city. it is the largest and most well reserved imperial residence in china today. beijing forbidden city is the head of the world's top five palace. the forbidden city was built begin in 1406 and it took 14 years to built it. the first ruler who actually lived here was ming emperor zhudi. north to south is 961 meters, and 753 meters from east to west. and the area of about 725,000 square meters. the imperial palace has 8704 rooms. in 1987 the forbidden city was recognized a world cultural legacy.

it is believed that the palace museum, or zi jin cheng (purple forbidden city), got its name from astronomy folklore, the ancient astronomers divided the constellations into groups and centered them around the ziwei yuan (north star) . the constellation containing the north star was called the constellation of heavenly god and star itself was called the purple palace. because the emperor was supposedly the son of the heavenly gods, his central and dominant position would be further highlighted the use of the word purple in the name of his residence. in folklore, the term ―an eastern purple cloud is drifting‖ became a metaphor for auspicious events after a purple cloud was seen drifting eastward immediately before the arrival of an ancient philosopher, laozi, to the hanghu pass. here, purple is associated with auspicious developments. the word jin (forbidden) is self-explanatory as the imperial palace was heavily guarded and off-explanatory as the imperial palace was heavily guarded and off-limits to ordinary people.

進(jìn)了故宮,過(guò)了天安門和端門,就來(lái)到了故宮的正大門——午門。故宮始建于公元1406年,建成于公元1420年,是世界上目前保存最完整、規(guī)模最大的古代皇宮建筑群。故宮規(guī)模巨大,南北長(zhǎng)961米,東西寬753米,占地72萬(wàn)多平方米,差不多有1800個(gè)籃球場(chǎng)那么大。

走進(jìn)午門,就來(lái)到了太和門。進(jìn)了太和門,就來(lái)到了有名的太和殿。太和殿上面是閃閃發(fā)光的金色瓦片,下面是白得沒(méi)有一點(diǎn)兒雜色的漢白玉臺(tái)階。太和殿里放著一把純金打造的龍椅,那便是皇帝上朝時(shí)的坐位。

北京故宮占地72萬(wàn)平方米,旁邊有高十米的城墻環(huán)繞著,而且還有寬52米的護(hù)城河,十分的雄偉,故宮有大小院90多座,房屋980間??梢源蟾艑⒐蕦m分為南北兩個(gè)部分,南半部分是前朝,北半部分是后勤,還有那就是故宮一共有著四道門分別都是,午門、神武門、東華門和西華門,故宮的正門也就是午門。

如果你要進(jìn)故宮游覽,首先進(jìn)入午門以后就可以看到內(nèi)金水河,它自西向東會(huì)流過(guò)太和門廣場(chǎng),而且內(nèi)金水河,也是建筑滅火的主要水源。在它的上面有一座橋,也就顧名思義叫做內(nèi)金水橋。

你繼續(xù)向前走,會(huì)來(lái)到太和門,古代,每一次皇帝要出宮的時(shí)候,也都會(huì)在太和門換車,而且在皇帝大婚的時(shí)候,皇后也必須要從太和門進(jìn)入皇宮。
